About the Topic:

2020 has been a year of many changes. It has left many of us questioning how we live our lives – what careers do we want to pursue, how much time do we want to spend with family and friends, what impact do we want to leave on our society? Most of us have changed the way we work, some of us are considering changing jobs, others are changing careers altogether.

But change isn’t always easy. We might be considering questions like: what is it like to leave a corporate career to try something completely new? If I want to launch a startup, how do I even start? Is it a good idea to launch during a pandemic? What kinds of challenges might I face?

In this session, Zoe will share her experience in answering these questions, how she leveraged her skills in strategy, project management and leadership in starting up a social enterprise remotely, working with partners across Asia and launching into the Australian market. She will also share the key business elements every founder needs to consider prior to launching, the challenges she faced, and the lessons learnt.

About the Speaker:

Zoe started her career at global management consulting firm L.E.K. Consulting in Melbourne, where she advised on strategy, operational and M&A projects. She subsequently joined Treasury Wine Estates, owner of the Penfolds brand, where she led the Asia strategy team in developing and executing strategies, based out of Shanghai. In 2019, Zoe was recognized as one of 30 outstanding young leaders across Australia and China through the Australia China Youth Dialogue (ACYD).

Zoe also serves as a Board Director at the Global Consulting Group, a not-for-profit of over 150 volunteers providing consulting services to NGOs such as the United Nations ESCAP. In 2020, she launched a social enterprise, Living Words, and was selected by the Australian Government to participate in a leadership program for 20 top social entrepreneurs from Australia and ASEAN member countries.

Zoe graduated with a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Melbourne.
